Engaged to be Married

Kevin and Sarah are a beautiful couple who were married this last May 30, 2010 at the Bellevue Harbor Club.  We met the week prior to break the ice with some engagement portraits on Lake Washington.  Sometimes I get the question, “Why do engagement pictures?” Their wedding was a great example to see the added dimension they provide.  The photos serve to enhance the wedding story by adding their casual, relaxed side, that is also very much a part of documenting who they are as young newlyweds.  I love the opportunity to work with couples in this way so they can see how I work and I can see how they “fit” together.  Their chemistry, their physical bodies, and their sense of humor are all parts of the puzzle I want to capture and are unique to them alone.  I loved learning that they met as lab partners in Inorganic Chemisty, while studying to be doctors!

Environment is also a key element.  I always ask if there is a significant place such as the spot of proposal, or to ask them what sort of landscape they see as representative to them.  In this case, water was an important element to Sarah & Kevin as they met and live in Newport beach, California.  In some of the shots, we were also able to incorporate the wedding location in the background!

Lastly, the weather being a tad(hee hee) unreliable in the Northwest, engagement sessions are a way to guarantee some outdoor photos with lots of natural light.  This was true for Sarah and Kevin whose chosen day was a little damp.  As you can see from the photos though, everybody had a REALLY good time.  It was truly an elegant & gorgeous wedding despite the weather!

Many thanks to my fab second shooter Sullivan Hester for once again outdoing herself for the “day of” wedding photos!
